The Civil War was an enormous war in our history. It was mainly about slavery and how there were pros and cons. The United States president at the time was Abraham Lincoln and for the Confederates it was Jefferson Davis. The General of the Confederacy state was Robert E. Lee. The Confederacy state was low on money as well so they weren't able to get great weapons like the North. The uniforms for the Confederate soldiers were gray and throughout time they got discolored. The North and South had many conflicts since the very beginning. The South had several different strengths that all didn't really help with the Civil War. Even though there were several strengths there was also a lot of weaknesses. Many soldiers died during the Civil War including confederate soldiers. Everyone knew about how much the South wanted slavery. There are many other things that you might have not known about the Confederate states. By: Arianna and Angelina

The Confederates didn’t have many different strengths that helped them with the Civil War. One of their strengths were a good military leadership. The leader that led the Confederates was Robert E. Lee. Although he led them with a great start, he did eventually surrender to General Grant at the Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Also, the South had geographic advantages as well. They thought in order to win the war the North would have to invade them first. Then which the South would have to defend their own territory. Until the North would grow tired of fighting them. This also helped because they knew their own territory. South also had the strength of being able to supply food when they needed it, therefore they wouldn’t go hungry. The Union also had to destroy the Souths capacity which could be challenging. Many of the Souths people were good shooters, so they would not have a hard time with that. They also had former officers in the U.S army. By: Ariannna
Weaknesses Weaknesses were very common for the Confederates during the Civil War. South's main weaknesses were its economy, since the Union closed their ports they could not sell any food to make money. They also had trouble with transportation systems, they did not have many railroads so there was not much transportation. Since, there was not enough transportation systems, they didn’t have many ways to haul troop. Also, when they needed supplies they could not take it because it would take a long time. The Souths gunpowder was not as great as the Norths. Another weaknesses would be that the South did not have as much soldiers as the North did. Which caused a lot of issues because they could lose, just for not having enough troops. The South also basically had no rights, because the North could just take or shut down anything. South also had few factories to produce weapons with. One third of the population was enslaved poor navy, that could but couldn’t fight in the war. The South few supplies from food to clothing. Many soldiers passed or went missing while fighting in the Civil War. There were about 52,000 Confederates who fought in the war. After the war they found out that about 2,770 soldiers lost their lives. Along with that, there were 11,000 who got wounded or went missing. While they fought they had to wear gray kepi, jackets and trousers. After they wore the clothes a lot and the clothes faded, they started to look light brownish. As clothing wore out, Southerners made do with patches and homespun cloth. When wearing the uniforms they had a nickname which was "butternuts" for Southern soldiers. Also "butternut" brown clothing may also have been the results for dyes used for simple, homespun uniforms. The Southern cotton fields allowed for cotton cloth in Confederate uniforms. Uniforms at the beginning of the Civil War, however, showed greater variety than would be true later in conflict. Many men wore what they brought home. By: Angelina
Conclusion As a result, The Civil War was a tragic time in our history. The South and North fought all because of slavery. Which then ended in the North winning and sort of ending slavery. All the strengths listed helped the South tremendously. Every single one, but then came the weaknesses and those didn’t help much. All the weaknesses added up to them losing the war, and not getting what they wanted. Therefore, all weaknesses were mainly caused by the North since they cut off most of their stuff. All the soldiers that were dead or missing, led up to a population decrease. The soldiers wore whatever they had and their uniforms were mostly torn. The uniforms got switched around at some points, which meant that the Confederate and the Union had worn different uniforms. Most of the time, the Confederate had worn red or blue but mostly gray. The Confederates never became their own country. By: Arianna
